BTRAQ, a funk, soul, rock and reggae band, perform on September 12 from 8pm at Tanz Cafe, Fourways, Johannesburg Tickets are R40 at the door.

JOSEPH CLARK with the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra performs on September 21 from 8pm and on the 23rd from 3pm at Aula Theatre, University of Pretoria, Tshwane. The repertoire includes classics, pop, rock and some of Joseph`s original compositions from his album, InStream. Tickets are R150, R180 and R200 and are available from Computicket.

DIVAS IN DRAG show is on every Thursday from 8pm at Carnival City’s Showbar in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni. Four Diva’s are said to hold the audience spellbound with their karaoke performance while two professional male dancers provide eye candy in this show that is promoted as offering 70-minutes of pure escapism. Tickets are R75 at the door.

LUNCH HOUR Classical Concerts take place at the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square in Sandton from 1pm every Friday. Serge Cuca on violin and Kevin Kraak on piano perform on September 07. THE NEWTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL is on September 07 from 8.30pm at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Joburg featuring Big Nuz, Magesh, Bucie, Donald, Pro, TKZee, Miss Cosmo, Kwaito 411 and Thuso Desmond Mamorare. On September 08 the festival features Professor, Zakwe, Cashtime, Thembi Seete, Kabomo, AKA, Khuli Chana, Mosa, Lolo featuring Slash 2 Klippa and Ben Sharpo and Idem. Tickets are R80 at Computicket.

STIMELA, Malik, Excellent Sekoto and comedian Thapelo Tips perform at The Oude meester, Ekurhuledni Comes Alive Jazz evening on September 07 from 8.30pm. The monthly lifestyle event with a smart and casual dress code is staged at Birthwood Hotel in Boksburg Ekurhuleni. Admission is R350 per person or R3500 per table of ten people. A STORY OF THE BLUES CONCERT is at the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square in Sandton on Sunday 9 September from 4pm.  The concert will feature UK blues guitarist and vocalist Mike Rowe, South Africa’s blues guitarist, Wayne Coughlan, Gerald Louw on Electric Bass, drummer Terry Hunt and harmonica player, Craig McKinnon. The musicians will take the audience on a musical journey performing compositions by Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, B.B. King and tunes made famous by among others Jimi Hendricks and Eric Clapton. FREDDIE MERCURY Birthday Soiree is set for September 08 from 7pm at Le Canard Restaurant, 163 Rivonia Road, Morningside, Sandton. The special birthday dinner pays a musical tribute to Mercury who was born in Zanzibar as Farrokh Bulsara. Ferdi Gernandt and Dihan Slabbert will present the vibrant, complex and colourful music of Freddie Mercury and Queen. Tickets are R390 and include a 4-course menu with exotic Zanzibari influences. ELDOS ARTS & JAZZ FESTIVAL is on September 09 from 10am at Kremetart Park, Eldorado Park Ext. 3. Featured acts are the JSL Project, Jordan, Nancy G, ADVAITA from India, Dr Kathy Brown from Jamaica, Blondie & Pappa, The Rockets and Don Laka. Admission is free.

A PICNIC CONCERT by the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company is on September 16 from noon at the UJ Arts Centre, Aucklan Park in Jo’burg. The performances by among others the Jazz Youth Ensemble, Chamber Winds and Symphonic Wind Band will include music from the classics, movie music, popular music and music from Africa. ONE VOICE is at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino on September 27. Audiences are promised a musical odyssey through styles and genres as diverse as pop, opera and African contemporary. The programme will include popular songs from artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Vicky Sampson, Toto, Elton John, Miriam Makeba and Koos du Plessis. The line-up will consist of solos, duets and ensemble works. Graham Scott will conduct members of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO). JAZZ BY THE RIVER FESTIVAL is on September 30 from noon at Dickinson Park, Mario Milani Road, Peacehaven Industrial in Vereeniging. Featured artists include Gerald Albright Andy, Narell, Kabomo, Wanda Baloyi and Selaelo Selota. Tickets are R200 at Computicket and R250 at the venue.

STRICTLY R&B AND SOUL is on September 30 from 2pm at Malibongwe African Restaurant, Lookout Hill. The event’s organizers promise to take patrons the 90’s R&b good food, company, performances and spoken word. Admission is R30
